You might just remember: The #1 hit song on the Billboard Hot 100 on August 11, 1962 was "Breaking Up Is Hard to Do" by Neil Sedaka, co-written by Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield. It was a solid, single hit all over the world, reaching #7 in the UK and translated into foreign languages. Why? Because it was, it is, and will continue to be a universal challenge for all times! I was headed to college then, and I can still remember every word! How true it is!
“One of the hardest lessons in life is letting go. Whether it’s guilt, anger, love, loss or betrayal, change is never easy. We fight to hold on and we fight to let go.” Mareez Reyes
Strangely, we hold tight even to that which is not blessing us, nurturing us, or healing us. In fact, what we hold onto is exactly what is withholding all that our heart truly desires! We even “get it” that sometimes letting go is the only way to heal, but we hold back. Holding on to what we thought “should be”, we build the wall that blocks our ability to embrace the life that Spirit is trying to work into our consciousness.
Why would we do that? I have done it, and you have done it. We have held tight for whatever reason to something or someone that confirms to us that we are not worthy of something better. We have held tight because we fear retaliation from others or even from God! We have held tight because we believed that someone could not do without us! Who taught us that? No doubt it hurts to let go, but we’ve missed the point: holding-on is actually hurting even more than letting go. We’ve just learned to push down the call to move on, still hoping for things to improve, yet remaining the same.
Here’s a New Power Thought! Holding on is controlling; it is using force. Holding on is not spiritual. Letting go is an act of great spiritual power that has something better for us and everyone else in its destiny.
It is hard for a while, but that is followed by the opportunity to become a co-creator with the Creator because we are stronger than our pain. The choice to stay stuck in pain doesn’t seem very wise! The role we play in life can be changed, and that is called free will! We do get to choose freely! Our script can become new according to our desire of our heart. We get to decide brand new every day.
I remember meeting Jerry Jampolsky years ago when he said to me. “I hope my book helps you. :) Always remember Love is Letting Go of Fear.” I must have had my desperate face on that day! Is it fear that keeps us trying to control something? Is there a feeling that either we aren’t worthy, or someone can’t possibly be without us? Could we let-go and trust that we and others will be even better than Ok? I see this lesson as a lesson in faith that God is within and all around all of us, allowing love to flow in perfect ways.
How do we move on? We can prayerfully choose to show appreciation for what we already have. We can try a new and meaningful spiritual practice, new classes, new church, new way of organizing our “wanted stuff”, ridding ourselves of the “unwanted stuff”, new schedule, new job, new activities, new friends, new exercise, new home, new location, new clothes, new food choices, or something entirely different, but something NEW!
Invitation: If you are looking to live, love, laugh more fully and freely, then take a leap of faith: let go and move on! It’s this two-fold practice that will allow you to align with Spirit’s consciousness of love and allow all that your heart desires to manifest! Join me in this practice to make room for the highest and the best that Spirit has for you and me. Are you ready for something new? Do you accept the invitation? It’s never too late! I look forward to hearing from you!
The following scripture has been in my presence for over 35 years. I believe it!
For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. Plans for good and not for evil; to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
