Do You Have a Rusty Brain?

It’s time to wake up! One thing we don’t want to do is to think it’s funny to say, “Oh, I guess I’m having a senior moment!” It’s not funny; it’s a symptom. Take it seriously! Yep! Alzheimer’s is a rusty brain of different degrees, and senior moments give us a clue as to the fact that rust is forming.

Among some of the most up-to-date, prominent researchers of Alzheimer’s disease, you will find the following: Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr. Joseph Mercola, Amy Berger, Dr. Dale Bredesen, Dr. David Perlmutter and Dr. Berg. The information that I will re-iterate here for you comes from their current reports*. An interesting fact is that they all agree with each other on the subject of Alzheimer’s prevention and cure. A number of highly respected, scientific journals also report these same conclusions as to 1.) a definition of Alzheimer’s, 2.) what the cause is and 3.) what the cure is. Yes, the cure! Not a cure from traditional doctors, but rather from the findings of the latest scientific research that your doctor might not even have the time to study. Today’s doctors have the ability to test and diagnose Alzheimer’s but offer no cure. So I wondered, “Why test?” The cost of caring for an Alzheimer’s patient is 2X the cost of a heart patient and 3X the cost of a cancer patient. Tell me about an assisted living place where an Alzheimer’s unit is not close by. By the time this disease is diagnosed it is well on its way.

All of the researchers I have listed confirm that Alzheimer’s is both preventable as well as curable. To me that is not only amazing but hopeful. Since a member of my family has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, I have been committed to finding the facts according to science! “The Clinic” offered no positive encouragement or help. To only hear that Alzheimer’s is progressive, got my attention! The authors that I’ve listed above are the most prominent at this time. However, there are many more agreeing with their conclusions and recommendations. Once the science is exposed, patients will begin to listen, even if their doctors tell them that there is no cure.

So here is number one of a few blogs as to what has been learned through research and now available to the individuals who are searching for answers. The statements that follow are taken from my reading of the author’s listed above. I intend to be accurate, simple, meaningful and helpful in this review of science.

Arthritis is inflammation of the joints and we feel pain! Alzheimer’s is inflammation of the brain and we feel no pain. The brain has no pain receptors! Therefore, we do not seek help early on. Why? Arthritis you feel. Alzheimer’s you cannot feel, even though both are the result of inflammation. Both are the result of oxidation in the body. Oxidation = rust formation!

The hippocampus is the memory part of the brain, and inflammation causes its cells to atrophy and die. What are our risk factors? If you are age 85 or older you have a 50-50 chance of Alzheimer’s. If the disease exists in your family, your risk is dramatically increased. If you are diabetic, then the chance for developing this disease is doubled. (Alzheimer’s has a new name, Diabetes 3; isn’t that interesting.) If you have been consuming cholesterol reducing drugs, then your memory has been compromised, because cholesterol is a necessary brain food. Eggs really are your friend! Our brains require water, lots of good fats (upcoming blog) between 60%-70% fat in the diet! Then protein is required at a level of 30%-40% and carbohydrates at 5%. On another note, those who followed this eating plan lost weight, far more weight that on a low fat diet. Surprised?

Consider this “formula” for Alzheimer’s: :( eat sugar, artificial sweeteners, carbohydrates, grains, gluten, bad fats (canola, etc.), skip the pre and probiotics and eggs, and ignore water at a level of ½ your body weight in ounces.

Glucose + protein = inflammation = free radicals = death of brain cells. :(

So, I’ll bet that prevention and cure is already becoming obvious to you! Here are the scientists’ 3-fold answer for that! :)

  1. Cut out sweeteners, grains, gluten, bad fats

  2. Add Pre and probiotics, water, good fats

  3. Supplement with quality CoQ10, etc.

At the onset of this research, which I will avidly continue, I was solely concerned with supporting my family member. However, I have already made significant changes in my daily food plan and will continue to do so. I recognize that to convert to this kind of a plan may be a process and not an event. We need to dig out some of the foods in our cupboards, refrigerator and freezer! Remove, Remove! Then it’s begin again! (See cookbook below). We often need time to turn our kitchen and our habits in another direction. My intention in gathering this information for the blog is to light a fire in all of us to set the facts right.
