Shine Your Light

Many a Sunday at Unity of Medina we sang "This Little Light of Mine”. The tune was catchy, the words felt good, and we were confident that we and our children were here to shine our God given Light! Unity of Medina has been referred to as “An Oasis of Love”, and that is what is still is today. In my retirement I miss the people, but I still feel the Love and remember that we joyously and confidently sang:

This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.

This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.

This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.

Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!

In that place it always felt so good, so easy!

What happens when we are aren’t in a space of Love with amazing people who are all shining their Light? Hmmm....what then?

Well I can tell you without a doubt that the Light does not depend on circumstances or people. The Light always is there; It is always available. Where does that Light come from? It comes from deep within our soul, and Love is its generator. If we can first feel God’s Love, we can be the Love that we were created to be. Love is Letting Go of Fear! Love is allowing ourselves to dissolve our fear by reaching within, feeling God’s love for us and making the choice to shine our Light.

We are free in every moment to shine our Light! Some moments are easier than others. Shining our Light depends on how much we are willing to feel God’s Love and willing to be that Light wherever we are, with whomever we come into contact. Feeling the Love and being the Light never means staying in an abusive situation. Love is removing ourselves from potential danger - emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually. Sometimes that means moving-on, seeking help, and sometimes not staying in the same place or with the same people. If only everywhere could be an “Oasis of Love” like Unity of Medina!

As strange as it might seem, shining your Light depends on Loving yourself as God Loves you, accepting and respecting yourself. It may mean that you feel the Love and shine your Light, as you move in another direction. You give glory to God by Feeling God’s Love, knowing the importance of loving, accepting and respecting yourself. Then you can do the same for others.

I happen to be a fan of “Tapping – EFT” and I end each tapping point with ......“I love, accept and respect myself”. This helps me to remember God’s Love and to shine my Light.

In Matthew we read, “Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead they set it on a lampstand, and it give light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”Let’s glorify God together and shine our Light!
